The Celestial Equator

At the Celestial equator the stars are almost at the same distance from both celestial poles so they seem to travel in a straight line. The South Celestial pole is towards the top left of the photo. The North Celestial pole is below the horizon towards the bottom-right.

The chaos in the top half is beautifully contrasted by the still on the lower half. I can certainly say, this is among my 5 favorite digital stills.

I loved this photo on 1x.com and had to seek out your gallery. Great work. What is the easiest way to determine proper alignment with the celestial equator and how would one go about determining the exposure given the length of time?
